The Protest/Dharna at Jantar Mantar, Delhi by MASI and All India Forgotten Women, supported by SIFF and its sibling organizations on 8th March, 2008 International Women’s Day was a Good Success. The topic was Women against Women Protection Laws.
Around 15 ladies, mothers and sisters along with 40 men had come forward to participate in the Dharna. It was well covered by NDTV, ETv, India News, X News, AAj Tak, Total TV, Azad News, ANI, Zee News etc. Amongst the print media, Punjab Kesari, Tribune, Nababharat Times and Hindu covered the Dharna. Outstation ladies like Uma, Mrs Sharda, Dr Mrs Indu Subhash, etc spoke over the phone on the occasion which was very well received.
As usual, a lot of people chipped in and it was a great team effort.
Every event of this magnitude has many silent heroes who made it happen
Many of them come to mind….. NOT in any particular order
Swarup, the main pillar of SFF, overall in charge in coordinating with our media friends.
Neeraj and Sandeep took the responsibility of printing the Slogans and Banners. Sandeep was also instrumental in faxing some more media contacts through our new contact developed in Press Club of India during our Book Release of GHRS.
Uma spared some time from her busy schedule and prepared the press release and memorandum to be meant for sending to the dignitaries.
Gurdarshan our serial SMS er also enthusiastically SMSed hundreds of victims from our victim list.
Rahul also actively took part in the SMS campaign and SMSed more than 125 victims from the victim list. Rahul was also the first to arrive at the venue of Jantar Mantar along with Komal to direct the tent wallah to the place of our choice of Dharna. Rahul also sponsored 100 McDonald McBurgers for the victim families and the journalists.
Sattu made around 100 phone calls from his office to inspire victims to join the Protest.
Andy’s mother took special pains and called over 100 victims from our Delhi victim list and inspired all to bring their mothers and sisters at the protest.
Vihan, the dependable took the responsibility to fax all our media contacts from his office. He was also instrumental in SMSing 100 SMSs to our victims from our victim lists.
Bipin Kumar Mishra, our Delhi RTI specialist, came forward and shouldered the responsibility in translating the English Press Release into Hindi, got it typed, laser printed and xeroxed. The Hindi Press Release was a serious shortcoming of our previous Dharnas.
Ajay, Sandeep’s hired personnel distributed the Invitations and the Press releases in the Press Trust Boxes in specially designed MASI envelopes.
Wasif, shouldered the responsibility in submitting the Memorandums and collecting them from the office after it gets stamped from the PMOs and President’s office.
Dr Anupama, as usual our key speaker spoke on the scale of the issues involved and gave a clear perspective on things.
Arvind’s sister, Vernal Green’s mother, Sudhir’s mother, Sandeep’s mother, Mrs Gupta, Mrs Arya, Mrs Prem Ahuja the lady women inpector, Rohit Jain’s mother, Kochars’s mother, the sardarni who has been kicked out through DV by her daughter in law, and the numerous ladies whom I don’t know who all presented their views in front of the media.
