Rajkot, July 11: SOCIETY for the Prevention of Cruelty to Husband (SPCH) has rallied behind Pratap Chauhan, Pooja’s Chauhan’s husband and plans a protest against Pooja. On Friday, over 100 members of this group from different parts of Gujarat will stage a demonstration against her. On Tuesday, Pratap became its latest member when SPCH members met him at his residence in Shashtrinagar.
22-year-old Pooja paraded semi-nude on the roads of Rajkot on July 3 to protest against harassment by husband and in-laws. While she has registered a complaint against Pratap and his mother under the Domestic Violence Act, a team of National Commission for Women visited Rajkot on Wednesday to find the facts behind the parade by Pooja.
“Pratap has been harassed by Pooja using laws that favours women,” said Dasrath Davda, president of SPCH. Formed in 1994, SPCH has its office in Ahmedabad, and Davda claimed that its members from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mehsana, Surat, Amreli, Porbandar and Kutch will come to Rajkot for the demonstration.
“We have talked to Pratap and his mother Hansaba. We believe that in this case it is Pooja who is at fault,” said Davda, adding, “Often acts like the Domestic Violence Act has been misused to harass husbands. Pooja has done the same.”
The organisation has been planning a surprise demonstration at Trikaun Baug before submitting a memorandum in this regard to the Commissioner of Police on Friday
